Snowmass Village, CO (August 4, 2008) – Snowmass gears up for a weekend full of magic, music and mountain-biking madness with a full line up of events for the whole family. The weekend kicks off on Thursday, August 7, with a free concert by Great American Taxi and continues with the FREE 27th annual Snowmagical Family Fun Fest, the NEW Snowmass G3 downhill challenge with a special free concert by the Dirty Heads, and Anderson Ranch’s famed annual art auction. True to form, Snowmass provides something for every age and interest with this weekend extravaganza.
AUGUST 7: SNOWMASS SUMMER OF FREE MUSIC SERIES—GREAT AMERICAN TAXI
Great American Taxi is the brain child of Leftover Salmon’s Vince Herman, who brought together this prodigiously talented group of Boulder musicians in 2005. The band, which performs 21st century Americana and already has over 200 shows behind them, delivers a performance charged with rich vocal harmonies and textures, a unique rock-folk-reggae-funk-country sound and clever lyrics. AUGUST 8-9: 27TH SNOWMAGICAL FAMILY FUN FEST
The Snowmagical Family Fun Fest is a free magical extravaganza for the whole family. Families can check out the continuous magic shows, street entertainers, music, stage shows, science and interactive fun, making this a must-see final summer weekend getaway for families. "It's a huge, affordable, family-oriented weekend," says event organizer Doc Eason, who has run the festival for 27 years. "And when I say family, I don't mean there's only a bunch of clowns running around for little kiddies. These are national multi-level entertainers and performances that will appeal to the biggest and littlest kid in every family. It's outstanding family entertainment in a beautiful resort at a great time of year to head to the mountains."
AUGUST 8-10: NEW! SNOWMASS G3
New this year to Snowmass Village, the Snowmass G3 also is the newest event in the prestigious Mountain States Cup Series. The Mountain States Cup Series G3 highlights the best downhill riders in categories ranging from ages 12 to 50+ on two Downhill races and one Super D. Racing can be viewed daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the best viewing spot in Hell’s Kitchen at the top of the Burlingame Chairlift.
The event also includes a FREE 6:15 p.m. Fanny Hill concert by The Dirty Heads, an acclaimed young band that for more than five years has been wowing fans up and down the west coast with their distinctive brand of reggae, hip-hop, and folk-influenced party music
AUGUST 9: ANDERSON RANCH’S 2008 ANNUAL ART AUCTION
This renowned arts center’s largest and longest-running fundraising event features silent and live auctions of more than 225 pieces of art. Join Anderson Ranch for a gourmet picnic lunch, cool libations and live music and bid on works by such artists as Jun Kaneko, Damien Hirst, George Condo and more. Silent auction and picnic begin at 11:30 a.m., live auction begins at 1:30 p.m.
